Aligned’s Story

All feelings are valid, our thoughts don’t always tell the whole story, and the meaning we make of events can determine our perspective.

The most important aspect of counseling is the therapeutic relationship where trust, compassion, and introspection can facilitate growth.

Approach to Counseling

Aligned Counseling utilizes a humanistic and relational view of counseling. This means that our work is collaborative. In the beginning, we will work together to come up with a goal, or goals, that you would like to achieve. Our work each week will build upon those goals - even if you need to come in and discuss something unrelated. It’s common to feel like you’re not working on what you came in for but you are. Aligned’s core belief is that all feelings are valid, our thoughts don’t always tell the whole story, and the meaning we make of events can determine our perspective.

Regardless of what you are coming in to discuss, the following applies to all clients:

  • You are worthy as you are

  • You are not alone in how you are feeling

  • You deserve to have your voice heard

  • You are not broken, you don’t need to be “fixed”

Working from a client-centered approach allows for utilizing various interventions to help you achieve your goals. Typically, sessions will incorporate mindfulness-based interventionscognitive approaches, and self-compassion to guide you through the tough experiences you are having. Attachment theory also plays a role in formulating our path, as it can help you understand how your outlook is shaped by your past experiences. This allows for a unique and appropriate approach for each client. All of this is done in a compassionate, warm, inviting environment where resources are shared, feedback is welcome, and coping strategies are learned.
