My Story

Sitting across from someone you don’t know can be awkward.

Telling a therapist your story can be uncomfortable.

Having a therapist you trust and connect with is important to the process.

Below you’ll find a little bit more about me so I’m a little bit less of a stranger.

Deanna Candeloro, M.Ed., NCC, LPC-MHSP, LPCMH

(she/her/hers)

I took an unconventional career path to becoming a mental health professional. I studied fashion and business in my undergraduate days at the University of Delaware. I worked for a couple of years in the fashion world before switching to the music business where I studied intellectual property laws and negotiated copyrights. After years in the music business, I decided to follow a path I had always wanted to – sitting across from another person and letting them tell me their story. Deciding to embark on that journey brought me to Nashville, TN where I earned my M.Ed. in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University. I spent nearly a decade in Nashville where I trained in and practiced mental health counseling with people from various backgrounds and experiences.

My training at Vanderbilt included working in a residential treatment facility for co-occurring disorders where I gained insight into 12-step programs and formed a multifaceted view of substance abuse. I concluded my studies with a year-long internship at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. At the Osher Center I worked with patients who were diagnosed with chronic pain or illness in a holistic, mindful way and learned more about the mind-body connection.

After graduating, I worked at two local nonprofits serving the Middle Tennessee area. As a school-based therapist at a middle school, I gained an understanding of the unique circumstances students face, as well as how children’s stressors and struggles impact parents. I also worked as a program manager for a cancer support community where members faced life threatening diagnoses, end of life issues, or loss of a loved one.

I am a member of the American Counseling Association, Nashville Psychotherapy Institute, Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association, and Chi Sigma Iota – the international honor society for counseling students.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in the state of Tennessee and a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health in the state of Delaware. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors.

When not counseling, I am usually listening to music, attending a concert, collecting records, reading books, watching baseball, or spending time with those I hold dear.
